In theory, you know that God has uniquely
created you, and has special plans for your life, right? In reality
however, you may be feeling frustrated that you do not know what His
purposes are for your life. You may not even be aware of the gifts
He has placed in you yet. You have a special role in the world - it
is time to Step Out and Take Your Place ! But first...you have to
figure out what that place is...
Trust me...I've been there.
Hi, my name is Krista Dunk. I am a woman of God who has
taken a journey to discover and understand God's plan for my
life. Much of it has involved discovering my God-given gifts
and realizing how my interests, passions, personality and
characteristics, past experiences, and natural abilities all
work together to accomplish God's purposes on the earth.
I recently finished my first
book called "Step Out and Take Your Place - How to
Discover and Live Your Everyday Calling."
(Order a book
today) The
journey I took is one I want to share with you. Recently, I spoke
at a women's ministry event where I told the ladies about something
written on a board near my kitchen, which stayed there for several
years. My pastor had said it one morning, and I wrote it down in big
letters so I could read it often. It said:
"God Has Dreams
for His People"
I knew it was true. However, I
had no idea what His dreams were for me. I was searching for my
calling.
At the time, I was working full
time at an office job, which I jokingly call "cubicle jail," and
was also volunteering with the youth
group at church on Sundays. In my spare time, I went from business
idea to business idea trying to satisfy my entrepreneurial spirit.
During that same time period, God told me in a dream to go back to
school for sign language interpreting, but I wasn't sure why. Next,
I became a stay-home-mom when my first child was born.
Really, inside, I just wanted to be doing God's will for my life
and be on the right path - doing what He designed me to do - nothing
more, nothing less. At some point, being frustrated
that I didn't know God's plan for me or understand the gift He had
given me was no longer acceptable. A burning desire sprung up within
me...
I have got to
figure this thing out!!
My journey to discover God's
plan for my life included:
Seeking God, and growing in
spiritual maturity
Discovering the gifts He
has given me
Developing and honing my
gifts (still in that process)
Creating action plans to
work towards the vision He has given me
Sharing my gifts within my
church and through business/work
The dream of seeing all of
God's people using their gifts effectively
That last bullet point is
meaningful to me. My dream is that all people can understand and be
aware of the gifts God has given them, and then develop and use them
effectively to make a difference in the lives of others around them.
Did you know that...
Your gift is not
for you?
Nope - it's not really about
you. What you have to offer is for other people. Yes, it will
benefit you in various ways too, including:
Bringing joy and
satisfaction into your own life
Finding your gifts
Giving you a sense of clear
purpose
Giving you the reassurance
that you are doing God's will for your life
Can potentially give you
opportunities for creating ministries or businesses based on
your gifts
Helping you define which
opportunities, ideas and career to pursue because you are clear
about your destiny
I admit, my desire to see YOU
using your gifts, your amazing, wonderful, God-given gifts, is
because when you don't use them, I am deprived of them. In fact, I believe
when believers do not understand their gifts and/or use them, the
body of Christ as a whole is weakened. That is not okay with me, and
I suspect you feel the same way.
God says we are each a vital
part of His body, "Just as each of us has one body with many
members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in
Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all
the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given
us." (Romans 12:4-6). A body doesn't function well or
efficiently when part of it is missing, in pain or idle.
It's time for
strength. It's time for clarity. It's time for vision. It's time for
destiny. It's time for collaboration.
You might be wondering how to
discover your life's purpose. Many of us ask the question,
"What is my purpose?" Really, it's God's purposes and how
we specifically fill a role within them. This is another one of the
important things I have come to understand. He accomplishes His purposes -
we play our part as we use the gifts He has given us. Everything,
including the purpose of our individual lives, begins and ends with
God!
There are two more things I would like
you to know; 1. Your gifts are not just for Sunday morning! It's true
- Your whole
life can and should involve your gifts. Thus,
the subtitle idea of "How to discover and live your
everyday calling," and 2. your gifts are tied to God's overall calling for your life.
Step Out and Take Your Place
helps God's people discover, develop and share their gifts with the
world. What you have to offer is so valuable, and I don't want you
to remain frustrated about not knowing what your gifts are and/or
not knowing how to use them in a powerful way. I will be sharing
what I've learned so far in my journey of seeking God and
my self-discovery process. The book combines practical and spiritual
information for you to move forward with, including "The Gift Discovery
Cycle™."
